Lucky for us, California is chock-full of hot springs—most of which lie just off the beaten path, well outside the confines of luxury hot springs resorts. Unique way to explore Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California!
Fort Point National Historic Site, California
This is actually a fort that is now a museum and part of the Golden Gate National Parks, a unit of the National Park Service.
❇Not many people know that the original Fort was called “The Castillo de San Joaquín” and was constructed in 1794
It stored Canons
❇Later during Gold Rush in 1849, coastal defenses were fortified to secure SF Bay. There was also a lighthouse built.
❇When construction of Golden Gate Bridge started, instead of breaking the fort and lighthouse, it was Chief Engineer Joseph Strauss who redesigned the bridge to save the fort.
❇The Southern entrance of Golden Gate Bridge runs over the Fort and Lighthouse today!
